Jack M. Ilfrey
Jack Milton Ilfrey was born on July 31, 1920, in Houston, Texas. In his hometown, he graduated from Lamar High School, named after its founder, Mirabeau B. Lamar ((1798–1859), leader of the Texas Revolution and second president of the Republic of Texas, and subsequently attended the University of Houston. While studying, he received civilian pilot training at Texas A&M University in 1939. In April 1941, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps as a cadet, training at Luke Field in Phoenix, Arizona. He was discharged with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on December 12, 1941.
